Aside from the Suez Canal, shopping has always been Port Said's strong point, at least since 1976 when it was declared a duty free zone. It offers excellent deals on all sorts of duty free items. Almost everything is available here including all types of modern goodies, designer wear and traditional Egyptian products.

Best buys in Port Said include clothing, leather goods, jewellery, home appliances, perfume oils and metal works.

The best place to shop in Port Said is at the main thoroughfare Sharia Palestine. Stretched parallel to the Suez Canal, this street is lined with a variety of shops, markets, restaurants and other establishments. Lively and noisy, the place really comes alive at night and even if you are not planning to buy anything, this is a good place to hang out and get a feel of the city. There are a number of plush shopping arcades and malls on the waterfront too. Other good Port Said shopping areas include Sharia el-Gumhorriya and Sharia 23rd July, which is a street named after the date King Farouk was overthrown. If expensive stuff and big crowds is not quite your thing, head for Al-Souq al-Togary where you will find goods at more affordable prices.
